Top 10 Problems Parents Face Today and Some Solutions

In the last few years, the way we live and raise our children has changed dramatically. As parents, it's now difficult to stay on top of everything with so many distractions and things to do. To help, we've compiled a list of some of the most common but serious problems parents face, as well as their solutions.

1. Exhaustion

Problem

Managing children takes a lot of energy as there's usually a lot of attention, concentration, and absorption needed. Somedays, you can end up spending 10+ hours attending to their needs, leaving you drained in performance, attitude, and health.

Solution

To make your day and your childrens’ days run smoother, understand your daily activities and establish a daily schedule around those activities. There should be no deviation from this schedule (except when needed). With strict adherence to this system, you'll be able to manage your time effectively.

2. Lack of Control

Problem

Because we don't want to hurt our childrens’ feelings, we can be overly lenient with them, allowing them to participate in unhealthy behaviors which can be detrimental to their life and future.

Solution

If you want your children to grow up to be free-thinking, loving individuals, you must teach them that their behavior must be free of abuse and violence. Therefore, you must practice 'tough love' when they go against this rule. It helps to keep excesses at bay.

3. Teaching Emotional Intelligence

Problem

Some parents struggle to teach their children emotional intelligence. That is, teaching children to recognize that others have feelings and desires, even if they differ from their own.

Solution

Teaching your children how to express their emotions appropriately while also considering the emotions of others is very important. You can do this by not just scolding them when they throw tantrums over something they couldn't get, but by giving them reasons why they can't get it at that particular time.

4. Managing Tolerance

Problem

As a parent, you're likely to be faced with a lot of child-related difficulties that need to be addressed right away, but might be difficult to do because they still rely on you.

Solution

To get your children to do things the way you want, you need to know what to tolerate and not tolerate. You can punish them for their actions, but what you need to remember is that you must tolerate them so they can get their act right and not be rebellious. Knowing what to tolerate and what to stamp out immediately is the goal.

5. Seeking Professional Help As Parents

Problem

Many people are terrified by the thought of parenting and wait until it is too late to seek help.

Solution

If you're feeling overwhelmed or lost as a parent, seek help. The more you seek help, the better results you will have. You won't become an expert at parenting, but you'll feel less lost and more supported.

6. Seeking Professional Help for Children

Problem

Some parents may find it difficult to seek professional help for their children because they don't want to appear incapable of parenting.

Solution

If your child is acting out, do not ignore the problem. Get professional help. It is important to make sure your child isn't experiencing any developmental or emotional issues.

7. Finding Support

Problem

Parenting can be lonely and challenging, especially when there are no other parents around for support.

Solution

Find a local parent meetup group, new mom or dad groups, or connect with anonymous parenting communities. These groups will help you to not feel alone or isolated as you get to find many parents in the same situation as you. You can also keep in touch with old friends when possible.

8. Balancing Work and Family

Problem

Striking a balance between work and family as a parent can be difficult and present challenges in parent-child bonding time.

Solution

Establish family time that fits within your schedule. For instance, if you work throughout the week, dedicate your weekends to your family. While earning money to support the family is crucial, learning to combine work and family life is far more important.

9. Managing Shy and Introverted Children

Problem

Shy and introverted children may have difficulty making friends. As parents, you may worry that your child is missing out on socialization opportunities.

Solution

Enroll your child in fun after-school activities or encourage them to join a sports team. However, make sure they participate in these activities on their own accord.

10. Not Enough Time to Keep Children Physically Active and Healthy

Problem

With having to manage so many activities at the same time, it becomes difficult to take care of your children and also ensure they are physically active and healthy.

Solution

Start by delegating tasks or creating schedules for managing activities such as cooking, grocery shopping, cleaning, handling assignments etc. This will help you appropriately manage your time, giving you time for fun, physical activities.
